In regards to the recent tragic event

Wayside West regrets the tragic events that took place in the early morning hours of April 17th, 2014 at our facility, which resulted in the loss of a young man’s life. We are fully cooperating with KDPS as it interviews our employees and customers in its investigation of this crime. We are appalled and shocked by the events that took place and we are grieving alongside the community of Kalamazoo.

Over the past 50 years Wayside West has been in business, we have never had an occurrence like the horrific tragedy that took place at our facility. The safety of our customers and employees is undoubtedly a top priority within our organization. We have never permitted firearms or any other weapons inside our facility by our staff or patrons to the restaurant. We believe that this incident was a random act of violence that unfortunately occurred at our facility.

We do not wish to compromise the on-going criminal investigation or intrude on the privacy of the victim’s family. As a result, all inquiries about this incident should be directed to KDPS.-Kory Newby
